Key Features & Functionality

Switcher Studio has a robust set of features, but there are three core components that are key to understanding how to create a live video with Switcher Studio: Inputs, Assets, and Outputs. Each of these key pieces of a Switcher Studio production set your video apart from a basic livestream, adding dynamics and energy to the viewing experience.

In this article:

Inputs

Inputs are any live source that can be connected and displayed in real-time.

Cameras

Up to nine iOS devices, such as iPhones and iPads, can be used as remote cameras in Switcher Studio. Once cameras are connected, the main iOS device running Switcher Studio can switch between camera angles with ease. For more information on connecting cameras, check out the Camera Setup article.

Screens

Screens from on-site iOS devices can be added to the production using the Switcher Studio app. This is great for displaying user interfaces of personal shops, websites, or tutorials. You can read the Screensharing an iOS Screen article to learn more.

Remote Guests

The Remote Guest feature allows anyone with a webcam and an internet connection to join your live production from any location. This is a great feature for hosting guests for call-ins, interviews, or general dialogue. Check out the Remote Guest Overview article for additional information.

Switcher Cast

Switcher Cast is an application for Mac and PC which allows computers to be used as an input in your production. You can learn how to set up this feature in the Screensharing a PC Using Switcher Cast and Screensharing a Mac Using Switcher Cast articles.

Assets

Assets are any pre-prepared content that can be used in the live production.

Text

Text assets such as lower-thirds, titles, and broadcast notifications can be used to enhance communication and engagement with viewers. These are great for introducing guests, giving a title to the livestream, and preparing to go live. See the Text Assets article for information on how to create and customize your own text assets.

Images

Images and logos can be imported into the Switcher Studio app for use in live productions. Using image assets in a live production can be a game-changer for selling products and personalizing the stream with your brand logo. Check out the Logo & Image Overlay Assets article to learn more.

Videos

Pre-recorded videos can be imported into Switcher Studio to use during your live production. Great uses for video assets are show openers, product showcasing, and highlight reels. Learn how to import and use video assets in the Video Assets article.

Audio

Cards

Cards are a full-screen display that combines camera angles, text, graphics, and a stylized background. These are ideal for live selling productions and can be customized using your very own Brand Profile. To learn more, read the Combining Assets & Camera Angles article.

Switcher Cloud

For more information, check out the Switcher Cloud Overview article.

Outputs

Outputs are any platform or destination that the production will be sent to.

Recording Only

The Switcher Studio app is able to be used to record a video without going live. This is a great feature if you are making a video and plan on making post-production edits. To learn more, read the Recording Only article.

Video Library

The Video Library acts as the main hub that can be managed from the app and the Dashboard. Using cloud storage, it can host Switcher Player videos and store cloud recordings of livestreams. The amount of storage and functionality of the Video Library depends on your subscription type. From this hub you can immediately view, download, share and edit details of your cloud recordings. Learn How to Manage Your Video Library.

Local Recordings

In the Switcher app you'll see a drop-down arrow next to "Video Library". Tapping the drop-down arrow will allow you to switch between your Video Library and Local Recordings. Local Recordings are videos created with Switcher Studio and saved on that particular device. The app stores a copy of all the videos you make so that you can export or copy them if needed. The exception is if you turn off "Record Live Output" in the Advanced Settings of the Outputs tab. Learn How to Create Video Clips and Export Local Recordings From the Video Library.
