How to Export Local Recordings From the Video Library

Switcher Studio has the ability to create a recorded version of your livestream and store all the recorded video files in the app. Accessing previous recordings can be great for creating highlight reels or making post-production edits before sharing on different platforms. This article walks through how to locate video files and export them to numerous destinations.

How to Access Recordings in the Switcher App

  • Open the Switcher Studio app on the main switcher (i.e. iPad, iPhone).
  • Tap Video Library.
  • Tap the Recording you would like to access.

How to Upload Recordings to the Online Video Library

You can export video recordings on your iPhone or iPad to the Video Library in the Switcher Dashboard. This allows you to create a cloud backup of the recording that can be accessed by logging into your account on the Switcher Dashboard. You can use the export function upon completing a livestream or from the "My Recordings" section in the menu.


To export a video recording to the Video Library directly after a livestream or recording:

  • Tap Export Recorded File on the completion panel.
  • Tap Video Library.
  • Edit the name and description.
  • Tap Upload Video.

To export a video recording to the Video Library from My Recordings:

  • Open the Switcher app.
  • Tap Video Library.
  • Tap the video you would like to export.
  • Tap Export Live Recording.
  • Tap Video Library.
  • Edit the name and description.
  • Tap Upload Video.

How to Export Recordings to the Photos App

  • Open the Switcher Studio app on the main switcher.
  • Tap Video Library.
  • Tap the video you want to export.
  • Tap the share icon (square with arrow).
  • Tap Send to Photo Library.
  • Tap Move or Copy.
    • Move transfers the file to your Photos app and permanently remove it from Switcher Studio.
    • Copy transfers the file to your Photos app and leaves a copy within Switcher Studio.

Note: Videos cannot be recovered once deleted. We recommend using the Copy option and then manually deleting the file from Switcher Studio after verifying the copy is successfully transferred.


How to Export Recordings to Windows

  • Connect your main switcher (i.e. iPad, iPhone) to a PC with a USB cable.
  • Open iTunes.
  • Click the iOS device name (i.e. Tim's iPhone) in the left sidebar icon.
  • Click File Sharing in the left sidebar.
  • Click Switcher.
    • Your recordings (and the archived recordings of your streams) will appear in chronological order from oldest to newest.
  • Click and hold the video file, then drag it onto the desktop or into a folder.
    • This will move a copy of the video file onto your computer while retaining one in the Switcher Studio app.

How to Export Recordings to Mac

  • Connect your main switcher (i.e. iPad, iPhone) to a Mac with a USB cable.
  • Open Finder on the computer.
  • Click your device name (i.e. Tim's iPhone) under Locations in the left sidebar.
  • If you have never connected your device to the computer you're transferring to, you will need to allow permission for the computer to access your device. Select Trust on both the computer and the device.
  • Click Files in the top horizontal menu.
  • Click Switcher.
  • Your recordings will appear in chronological order from oldest to newest.
  • Click and hold the video file, then drag it onto the desktop or into a folder.
  • This will move a copy onto your computer while retaining one in your Switcher Studio app.

How to Export Recordings With Dropbox & Google Drive

  • Open the Switcher Studio app.
  • Tap the menu icon (three lines) in the top-left corner.
  • Tap My Recordings.
  • Tap the video you would like to export.
  • Tap the share icon (box with arrow).
  • Tap Open In...
    • If you do not see the app, scroll to the right until you find it. If it does not appear, you must first install the app on your device.
  • Tap the cloud drive app (i.e. Dropbox, Google Drive)
    • For Dropbox you will need to select the destination folder and person you are sending it to.
  • Tap Upload (Post for Dropbox) in the top-right corner.
  • Leave your iOS device open until your recording is fully uploaded to the cloud drive.
