Custom RTMP Setup in the Switcher App

When creating a Custom RTMP channel in the app, Switcher will automatically adjust your quality settings based on a speed test. You can stream immediately after creating a channel, or you can save the channel to use later.

Note: For general information about what Custom RTMP is and why it's used, check out the Help Center article Streaming to Platforms Without a Direct Integration (Custom RTMP).

To set up Custom RTMP in the Switcher App:

  • Gather your stream key and stream URL from the destination you would like to use in Switcher.

  • Open the Switcher app on your iOS device.

  • Tap the outputs tab. (box and arrow icon)

  • Tap the blue arrow next to Custom RTMP.

  • Tap the blue "+" icon in the top-right corner of the RTMP Channels menu. This will populate the RTMP Parameters modal window.

  • If desired, enter a nickname for the custom channel you're creating.

  • Under Server URL and Stream Key, enter the values you obtained from the streaming destination platform. Double-check these for accuracy. If there is a typo, your stream will not work.

  • Next, run a speed test so that Switcher can identify the best settings for your broadcast and Wi-Fi. To do this, tap SPEED TEST in the top-right corner of the RTMP Parameters window.

  • Give the test time to run. Once it's complete, tap RTMP parameters to go back.

  • You'll see that Switcher has updated your Broadcast Options bases on the speed test results. Tap OK in the top-left corner of the RTMP Parameters window to save your newly created Custom RTMP channel.

  • If you were setting up Custom RTMP to use at a later time, you are finished for now.

  • When you are ready to begin your Custom RTMP broadcast, tap the blue arrow beside Custom RTMP in the Outputs tab.

  • Tap the name of the Custom RTMP stream you will be using. Make sure there is a blue checkmark next to the name.

  • Tap done to return to the outputs tab in Switcher.

  • Double check there is a blue checkmark next to Custom RTMP and the correct stream nickname is displayed.

  • When you are ready to go live, tap the red Go Live icon in the upper right.
