Sharing a Clip to Instagram Stories or Feed

The Clips feature in Switcher Studio makes it easy to trim your video recording and share the clip directly to Instagram Stories or Feed. Videos shared to Instagram Stories will disappear after 24 hours, unless you add them to your profile as Story Highlights.

There are two steps to share a clip to Instagram Reels/Feed:

  1. Create a Clip in Switcher Studio

  2. Share to Instagram Stories or Feed

Creating a Clip in Switcher Studio

You can create a clip immediately after recording a video, or you can go back to a previous recording and create a clip. For either scenario, you will first go to the Clip Editor and then make any adjustments.

Accessing the Clip Editor

To create a clip immediately after you have stopped streaming/recording:

  • The Video Completion Panel will appear when you’ve ended your video. At the top of the panel you will see the message, "Congratulations! Your Video is complete.”

  • In the lower right, tap More (below the three dots).

  • Tap Create Clip (Edit) to open the Clip Editor.

  • The Editor window will include a preview window and editing options. As you make adjustments, you can tap play in the video preview to watch the clip.

To Create a Clip From a Previous Recording:

  • Tap Video Library.

  • Tap My Recordings.

  • Tap the recording you'd like to use for the clip.

  • Tap Clips in the lower left-hand corner.

  • Tap Create New Clip to open the Clip Editor.

  • The Editor window will include a preview window and editing options. As you make adjustments, you can tap play in the video preview to watch the clip.

Trimming a Video

The Clips Editor has several options, but the most commonly used tool is Adjust, which allows you to shorten/trim the video. From the Clip Editor:

  • Tap Adjust (scissors icon).

  • The video timeline will appear in the Editor.

  • To change where the clip starts, swipe across the timeline to the desired starting location.

    • Then tap the Start button below the timeline. The timestamp in the Start button will show where the clip will begin.

  • To change where the clip ends, swipe across the timeline to the desired ending location.

    • Then tap the End button below the timeline. The timestamp in the End button will show where the clip will end.

  • At any time, you can tap the Play button in the center of the clip preview window to watch the clip.

  • Make adjustments to the start and end locations as needed.

  • Tap Save at the bottom of the Editor window when you are finished.

  • If you do not want to make any other changes to the clip, tap Create in the top right corner. Otherwise, tap through any of the other Editor options (e.g. Format, Layers, Captions) to continue customizing the clip.

For step-by-step instructions on using any of the other Clip Editor options, check out the article Creating a Video Clip.

Step 2: Sharing a Clip to Instagram Stories or Feed

If you went through the steps above to create a clip, sharing is only a couple of taps away. After you tap Create to save the clip, you will be taken back to a screen that shows details for the clip you just created.

From this Clip screen:

  • Tap the share/export icon (box with an arrow coming out of it).

  • A menu will appear with options to share.

  • Tap either Share to Instagram Stories or Share to Instagram Feed.

Publishing to Instagram Stories

  • After tapping Share to Instagram Stories, Instagram will open, with a preview of the video.

  • Tap any of the edit options at the top to further customize the clip using Instagram's Story tools.

  • Tap Your story to share with your audience.

Publishing to Instagram Feed

You have to allow Switcher Studio access to your Photo Library in order to share to IG Feed. When you are prompted to allow access to your photo library, be sure to choose the clip you want to share.

  • After tapping Share to Instagram Feed, Instagram will open.

    • Note: If you receive a message that Switcher wants to open Instagram, tap Open.

  • Tap Feed.

  • Tap Next in the top right.

  • If you want to use a filter, tap through the available options.

  • If you would like to trim the clip further, tap Trim, and adjust the start/end.

  • Tap Next in the top right.

  • Add a caption, and use any of the other options as desired.

  • When you are ready to publish the video, tap Share at the bottom of the screen.

Sharing a Previously Recorded Clip to Instagram

The instructions above are for sharing a clip immediately after creating it. If you want to share a clip you created in the past, the steps are similar to the above, but you have to get to the clip you want to share first.

  • Tap Video Library.

  • Tap My Recordings.

  • Tap the recording with the clip you want to view.

  • Tap Clips in the lower left-hand corner.

  • Tap the name of the clip you want to share.

  • From there, follow the instructions outlined at the beginning of Step 2 above.

Important Notes about Instagram Stories and Feed

    • At the top of Feed: Your profile picture will appear in a row at the top of your followers' Feeds, and they can tap it to see your story.

    • In Feed next to posts you share: When you share a post, a colorful ring will appear around your profile picture in Feed. People can tap it to see your story.

    • In Direct inbox: A colorful ring will appear around your profile picture in Direct inbox and threads, and people can tap it to see your story.

Instagram Feed

  • Videos shared to Feed will appear on your profile grid, your profile's video tab, and in Feed. If your visibility is set to Private, only your approved followers can see videos you share.

  • When you share a video on Instagram Feed, a preview of it (the first 60 seconds of your video) will appear in Feed. Once the preview is finished, the video pauses and viewers will need to tap "Keep watching" to continue watching the full video. The full video will be visible from Feed, your profile grid and your profile’s video tab.

  • Sharing to Instagram Feed will not work if you have limited access to Photo Library on your device. To fix this, go to Settings, then tap Switcher, and allow full access to the Photo Library.
