How to Stream to YouTube using Custom RTMP
To stream to YouTube Live via Custom RTMP, you must obtain a Server URL and a Stream Key and enter these values as a Custom RTMP Channel in Switcher Studio.
1.) Log in to your YouTube account from a web browser and go to YouTube Studio.
2.) Click the "Create button and then select "Go Live" from the top right corner. If this button is not available, visit https://youtube.com/features to enable Live Streaming on your account.
3.) Fill out the details of your stream such as a title and description.
4.) Note the Stream Url and Stream Name/Key. You will need to enter these values later into the Switcher App or via the Dashboard.
Adding your RTMP information to Switcher (All Plans)
Now that we have our stream values, open the Switcher Studio app and from the Outputs tab, tap the blue arrow to the right of "Custom RTMP".
Now tap the plus icon on the right to create a new channel.
After giving your channel a name, you will see the area to enter your Server URL and Stream Key/ID. Type in the values you got from Facebook.
Double-check that you have entered all the information correctly. One wrong character will stop the stream from working. If you are unable to stream, this is the first thing to check.
Next, you need to select the stream settings. For a quick reference on choosing a Video Resolution:
- 480 x 270 = Low Quality
- 640 x 360 = Medium Quality
- 960 x 540 = High Quality
- 1280 x 720 = HD Quality
Once you have your settings setup, tap "OK" in the upper left.
Navigate back to outputs and double check there is a checkmark next to "Custom RTMP" and that your stream name shows up.
You are now ready to go live, tap the Go Live button in the top right!
