How to Use a Bluetooth Microphone With Switcher

You can use Bluetooth microphones, such as Airpods, to use as the audio source for your production in Switcher Studio. We don't recommend using 1st generation Airpods (the sound quality isn't that great), but Airpods 2, Airpods Pro, and any other high-quality iOS compatible Bluetooth mics will work with Switcher.

Using a Bluetooth mic with Switcher Studio is simple, but one key step is to turn on Voice Mode in the audio tab. We provide step-by-step instructions below.

Using a Bluetooth Mic with Switcher Studio

Step 1: Connect the mic to your main switcher device

  • Go to your iOS Settings.

  • Tap Bluetooth in the left menu.

  • If it's not already enabled, tap the slider to turn it on.

  • Under My Devices, tap the name of the bluetooth device you want to connect.

  • A spinner will appear while the device connects.

  • It will say Connected next to the device name, once it's successfully paired.

Step 2: Turn on Voice Mode

  • Open Switcher Studio.

  • Tap Horizontal or Vertical

  • Go to the Audio Tab in Switcher (sound wave icon).

  • Make sure the toggle next to Voice Mode is enabled. When it is enabled, the toggle is blue.

Step 3: Confirm the bluetooth mic is being used as the audio source

  • Go to the Audio tab (sound wave icon).

  • Under Audio for Recording / Broadcasting you should see that the bluetooth microphone is connected and being used as the mic.

  • Have the person using the mic speak to see the audio levels change both in the Audio tab and in the VU meter above the Live window.

  • If the VU meter above the Live window does not change when the person speaks, it means the mic is muted.

    • To unmute the mic, tap the microphone icon next to the microphone in the Audio tab.

Disconnecting a Bluetooth Mic from Switcher

To revert back to the built-in microphone for audio, you will need to disconnect the bluetooth mic from your device.

If you are using Airpods or something similar that disconnect when put in their case, all you have to do is put them in their case.

If you are using a bluetooth mic that does not have a way to easily disconnect, you will need to disconnect the mic from the iOS device in the Settings app:

  1. Go to your iOS Settings.

  2. Tap Bluetooth.

  3. Tap the info icon (lowercase i) next to your mic device.

  4. Tap Disconnect.
