Monitoring Your Audio In Switcher

Audio Monitoring is a feature within the Switcher app that allows you to use headphones to listen to the audio being recorded. Audio Monitoring is disabled by default unless you plug in a headset. We recommend keeping Audio Monitoring disabled and only enabling it briefly to check audio levels before your stream.

Audio Monitoring Requirements & Restrictions

Your Switcher audio cannot be monitored by connecting regular headphones directly into your device's Audio Jack. The Audio Monitoring feature requires one of the following devices:

The iOS Share Audio feature for AirPods and Beats is not compatible with Switcher software. You cannot simultaneously connect two sets of AirPods or two sets of Beats to Switcher.

Enabling & Disabling Audio Monitoring

To turn Audio Monitoring on or off:

  • Open the Switcher Studio app on your main switching device.

  • Tap the Audio Tab (sound wave icon).

  • Tap the button next to Audio Monitoring to toggle it on or off.

    • When enabled, the toggle bar appears blue with the button on the right.

    • When disabled, the toggle bar appears clear with the button on the left.

Note: You may hear an echo when using the Audio Monitoring feature. This is normal due to Switcher's built-in latency. The echo will not be present in your livestream/recording.

Monitoring Audio Via An iRig Pre

You can monitor your audio via an iRig Pre with the following process:

  • Enable Audio Monitoring in the Audio tab (as outlined in the section above).

  • Connect headphones to your iRig Pre through its headphone port.

Monitoring Audio With External Audio Inputs

Not all mixers have a passthrough (which allows you to monitor audio directly from your external audio device). Understanding whether your mixer or interface supports audio monitoring is crucial, especially if you are using the Remote Guest feature in Switcher Studio.

If your external device does not support passthrough audio monitoring, then you'll need to use our Remote Guest feature instead from a second device in order to hear your guest. Please see the Remote Guest Overview article for more details!
