How to Monitor Your Audio in Switcher

Audio Monitoring is a feature within the Switcher Studio app that allows you to use headphones to listen to the audio being recorded. Audio Monitoring is disabled by default unless you plug a headset in. We recommend keeping the Audio Monitoring feature disabled, and only enabling it briefly to check audio levels before your stream.

In this article:

Audio Monitoring Requirements & Restrictions

You cannot monitor audio by connecting regular headphones directly into your device's Audio Combo Jack. Instead, the Audio Monitoring feature requires one of the following devices:

  • Bluetooth headphones

  • iRig Pre interface

  • USB to Lightning audio interface with audio input and output support (not all interfaces include this capability)

Enabling & Disabling Audio Monitoring

To turn Audio Monitoring on or off:

  • Open the Switcher Studio app on your main switcher device.

  • Tap the Audio Tab (sound wave icon).

  • Tap the button next to Audio Monitoring to toggle it on or off.

    • When it is enabled, the toggle bar is blue and the button is on the right.

    • When it's disabled, the toggle bar is clear and the button is on the left.

Note: There may be an echo when using the Audio Monitoring feature. This is normal due to the built-in latency in Switcher Studio and the echo will not be present in your livestream or recording.

Monitoring Audio With an iRig Pre

Audio Monitoring is possible when using an iRig Pre, as follows:

  • Enable Audio Monitoring in the Audio tab as outlined above.

  • Connect headphones to your iRig Pre through its headphone port.

Monitoring Audio With External Audio Inputs

Not all mixers have a passthrough which allows you to monitor audio directly from your external audio device. Understanding whether your mixer or interface supports audio monitoring is crucial, especially if you are using the Remote Guest feature in Switcher Studio. If your external device does not support passthrough audio monitoring then you will need to connect to Remote Guest from a second device to hear your guest. Please see the Remote Guest Overview article for more information.
